National Geographic Driving Guide to America, Texas
Published in Paperback by National Geographic (01 February, 1999)
Average review score:

Truly UsefulFollowing a series of recommended drives throughout the Middle South from west to east, this compact little book provides an excellent listing of sights (including brief descriptions) that a reasonably intelligent reader might enjoy. I read it with highlighter in hand, marking the sights that appealed to me, an approach I recommend to others.
Mr. White appears to be an active bird-watcher (he apparently has written other books on that subject). Readers who share that interest will find this book particularly interesting, since he highlights the best bird-watching spots along the Gulf Coast.

The National Geographic Traveler: Japan
Published in Paperback by National Geographic (October, 2000)
Average review score:

Outstandingly beautiful book, yet information-packedWhoever glances through this book will automatically be stunned by the top-notch pictures that reveals the scenery of today's Japan. By saying so, I shall break the neck to a widespread idea in Western countries that Japan is merely an industrial dump with Mt Fuji overlooking it. One has to acknowledge that this (false) statement is true in Tokyo and Osaka-Kobe, but the 95% portion of the country remaining is just scenic, as portrayed in the book.
National Geographic's long experience in combining excellent information feedback and outstanding pictures, has resulted in this series "National Geographic Traveler" that revolutionizes the way to dicover far-away countries and cultures.
I very strongly recommand you to buy this book as soon as you're slightly keen on Japan and its culture. I'm now planning a trip there for next summer!!!

The National Trust Guide to New Orleans

The Native American Sweat Lodge: History and Legends
Published in Paperback by Crossing Press (October, 1993)
Average review score:

A Good MixIf you don't even know what a sweat-lodge is you might not get what you are looking for reading this book. However, for those who would like to learn more about Native American spiritual practices, it's a rich supply of knowledge. The book sets forth the history of the Sweat-lodge in many cultures, and also tells some great ancient tales of the lodge--great for telling in the lodge, or around the fire.

Natural Wonders of Kentucky: Exploring Wild and Scenic Places (Natural Wonders of)
Published in Paperback by McGraw-Hill/Contemporary Books (December, 1998)
Average review score:

Each entry is a vivid word picture of your day's experienceWe bought a copy by reason of sheer vanity since you quoted a good part of our conversation verbatim. It's not vanity that keeps me coming back again and again to read a few more of your entries about various locations around the state. Each entry is a vivid word picture of the experience you had on the particular day you made your visit. That's a lot more than most travel guides offer and a whole lot more interesting.

The Naturalist in Nicaragua

A Naturalist in NicaraguaThis book is one of the best natural history books ever writen. Thomas Belt lived in Nicargua for 4 years during the last century and his travel with in the country descrived the way the tropics used to be 100 years ago. Since he wrote the book, 98% of the low land tropical dry forest have been deforested.
